Dr. Charles W. Hickey, Jr. received his B.S. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1969, and his DVM from Kansas State University in 1973. In 1977, he founded Pocoshock Animal Hospital in Chesterfield County. In 1998, he founded Short Pump Animal Hospital. He has served as President of the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association, the Virginia Association of Professions and the Central Virginia Veterinary Medical Association. He was the recipient of the Virginia Veterinarian of the Year Award in 1995 and received the AAHA Southeastern U.S. Practitioner Award in 1997. Dr. Hickey served as the Chairman of the Virginia State Board of Health and also served on the Board of Governors to the Virginia Council for Healthy Communities until 2005. Dr. Hickey served on the Board of Directors of the American Animal Hospital Association from 2000-2002.Currently, he is on the Board of Directors for the Jack Russell Terrier Club of America and is currently serving as Vice-Chair of the JRTCA.
Dr. Morlino received her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in 1993 and her veterinary degree from the VA-MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. Originally from Williamsburg, she has lived and practiced in the Richmond area for the last 17 years. Her special interests include geriatric medicine, dentistry, exotic animals and client education. She and her husband, Joe, have three children, a dog named Lexi, several goats and sheep and a Sicilian donkey named Giovanni. During her time off she enjoys hiking, traveling, spending time with friends and family and volunteering at her church and in the community.
Sally was the key decorator of our hospital. As you will notice when you come in, the facility has a very warm and personal touch to it. Sally is extremely sensitive to our patients' needs and will do whatever it takes to see to it that they receive the very best attention we can give. Sally has many pets of her own. She has a monkey named Baxter; a Great Pyrenees as well as fourteen Jack Russell Terriers of her own that she and Dr. Hickey show all over the United States. Sally is also past President of the Virginia Jack Russell Terrier Club from 2009-2010
Anne is our animal care coordinator and one of our receptionists who will greet you when you arrive. Her goal is to make sure that your pet's visit to our hospital is as comfortable and smooth as possible and that all of your pet's and your needs are met. She makes our follow up calls to check on your pets and answer any questions you might have. She is a happy mom of a handsome Rottweiler and two sweet kitties.
Tracy is a Licensed Veterinary Technician who joined SPAH in November of 2007. She is a graduate of Blue Ridge Community College in Weyer's Cave, Virginia. She is very enthusiastic about her profession and is dedicated to the patients who come here. Tracy, her husband Tod, and her mom Elaine live with their kitties, Bootsie, Figaro and Bobby.
Jenn graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor's in Animal Science. She has over 16 years experience in the veterinary field and loves what she does everyday. She has a Corgi/Chihuahua mix, Rio, who she adopted from ADRATI K9 Rescue. She enjoys spending time with her beautiful daughter Elizabeth and family and friends. She also enjoys pet-sitting, making cards, scrapbooking, studying genealogy and taking trips.
Debbie is a 2008 graduate of Blue Ridge Community College. She joined us at SPAH as our newest Licensed Veterinary Technician. Debbie enjoys helping the staff and clients give the best of care to their pets. She especially likes teaching children good pet care. Debbie lives on a tree farm in Goochland County with her husband, and two dogs, Rascal and Shadow, along with several chickens.
Our groomer, Linda Tate, hails from Richmond and has been grooming pets for over 25 years. Linda has been featured in several newspaper articles including Richmond Magazine's Best of Richmond issue. She has a real passion for her job and compassion for your pets which shows in the time and care she takes to groom each pet to the owner's liking.
Our most popular staff member :) Rio lives for attention and loves to put everyone at ease. He enthusiastically greets all of our visitors, two and four legged alike.
